PLFM Spanish School (Antigua Guatemala)

Founded in 169, PLFM (Proyecto Linguistico Francisco Marroquin) opened with he purposes of teaching Spanish and also to preserve Mayan tradition and language. They are a non–profit organization run by native Mayan professionals and is affiliated with the Consejo Nacional de Educacion Maya (CNEM), a national organization promoting Mayan education.

PLFM uses a total immersion methodology where students will work one-on-one with their teachers. Students will be able to choose a flexible program where they are able to choose areas to emphasize, such as conversation, comprehension, writing, etc.

Using the same methodology, PLFM also offers Mayan languages classes in Kaqchiquel, K´iche´, Mam, Q´eqchi. If you are interested in other Mayan languages, the school can arrange it.

Students can begin on any Monday throughout the year, with classes from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon and 2:00 to 5:00 p.m held from Monday through Friday. The daily seven-hour full-time schedule includes half an hour breaks. Except for June through August, you can choose the half-time schedule from Monday to Friday.

PLFM can make lodge arrangements with a Guatemalan host family in Antigua. They can also provide transport from Guatemala City airport to your host family, if arranged beforehand.

To pay, you are able to do it in US cash or local currency, by personal check drawn on a US bank, or by traveler’s checks. Credits cards are not accepted. Fees are as follow:

Full-time schedule: $ 150.00 US per week per person

Half-time schedule, mornings: $ 100.00 US per week per person

Half-time schedule, afternoons: $ 70.00 US per week per person

Housing (Full room and board): $75.00 US per week per person

Full-time schedule: $ 175.00 US per week per person (Mayan Languages)
